Mark Deady (Class of 1985) is one of the greatest distance runners in school history. He won the 1,600-meter state championship as a senior and was runner-up the year before. Deady’s winning time of 4:07.45 in 1985 set a state meet record that stood for 23 years, and still stands as the fastest in school history. As a senior, Deady ran the final leg in the 1,600-meter relay team that finished eighth at state and set a school record (3:18.4) that has not been surpassed. He went on to run at Indiana University, winning two Big Ten championships and three times garnering All-American honors. In 1988, he ran in the Seoul Olympics after capturing the 1,500-meter title at the USA Track and Field National Championships. His time of 3:35.83 in the 1,500 is the second-fastest in Hoosier track and field history.
