Jeff Wimer began swimming and playing water polo at the age of 6 at the Ravenswood YMCA in Chicago. A graduate of Fenwick High School, he played on 3 High School State Championship squads in 1973, 1974 and 1976. He was selected as High School All-American in water polo in 1974, 1975 and 1976 and also in 1976, he was the Illinois Player of the Year!
He continued his water polo career at the University of Illinois-Chicago, where his teams were Midwest Collegiate Champions in 1977, 1978 and 1979, and Jeff earned Collegiate All-American honors in both 1978 and 1979.
He began his high school coaching career at Mundelein H.S., where he started the girls’ water polo program in 1990. His squads made state tournament appearances from 1990-1997, winning State Championships in 1994, 1995 and 1997, and placing 2nd in 1996. He became Head Coach at Stevenson H.S. in 1998 and remains in that position today. In nineteen seasons at the helm for the Patriots, his teams have won 11 sectional titles, three third place trophies, one runner-up trophy, and four state titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019. His career record of 672-167-1 places him 1st on the most career wins list for the state of Illinois.
